Things To Do:

There's usually a huge amount going on locally, throughout the year. The Tourist Office in Killarney has comprehensive information on the area - see www.killarney.ie and www.discoverireland.ie/killarney. Here are some of the things we and our guests enjoy:

Golf: Killarney Golf and Fishing Club is a 5 minute drive away (or a more leisurely boat ride) and has 3 beautiful 18 hole courses, one of which was the much praised venue for the 2010 and 2011 Irish Opens. 5 minutes in the other direction, Beaufort golf club is a friendly local club. Further on is Dooks Golf Course, a lovely little known course. World class links courses at Ballybunion and Waterville are within an hour’s drive. You can easily spend a week at a different course each day and, indeed, many do.

Fishing: is available on your doorstep. The Estate has a jetty in front of the house where you can be collected by an experienced ghillie for a half (or full) day to show you the best spots on the lake.

Boat trips: can be taken to picnic spots around the lake including the island of Inisfallen with its ruins of a 9th century abbey or through and around the 3 lakes.

Walking: from gentle strolls along the private paths through the Estate or the Killarney National Park to more challenging hill and mountain walking, there is something for everyone.

Cycling: Bikes can be hired in Killarney town and delivered to the House. Many of the local walks accomodate cyclists and there is growing a network of dedicated cycle lanes around the County.

Horse Riding: There are 3 local riding stables which can arrange trekking through the National Park and other areas.

Sightseeing: The front gate of Lakeview House & Estate is situated on the Ring of Kerry, the famous half to whole day scenic route around the Iveragh Peninsula. Close by is the Wild Atlantic Way, 1100 miles of road around our beautiful coastline. Nearer to the House, the Gap of Dunloe, Torc waterfall and the rest of the Killarney National Park could take a lifetime to fully explore. Further afield, the Dingle Peninsula and the Beara Peninsula are one day trips that are well worth the journey.

Beaches: Lakeview House & Estate is around 15 minutes from the coast. The nicer beaches are a little further on, the closest being Rossbeigh with a glorious stretch of beach 2 miles long ideal for walking and swimming. A lot of the coast borders the Atlantic and is fairly undeveloped, the beaches are generally very clean with many having Blue Flag status.

Wet Day Activities: Sometimes it rains in Ireland – that’s what keeps the place looking so green and the people so youthful! As we advise our guests: “Come expecting rain and you won’t be disappointed......!”

The rain is mostly light and gentle and, on the occasions that it isn't, there are a lot of things to do that are not dependent on good weather:

Stay in the House: play board games or snooker, relax with one of our around 4000 books.

Explore the local towns, Killarney, Killorglin and Kenmare; stop awhile in an atmospheric pub for a glass of Guinness, best enjoyed with locally smoked salmon on brown bread (or, actually, with anything). Try out one of the many local restaurants serving excellent locally sourced produce.

Muckross House: a stately home and estate open to the public with interesting displays, wonderful gardens and walks. Queen Victoria stayed here in 1861, publicising Killarney’s charms (and nearly bankrupting her hosts!). Ross Castle a restored 15th century castle (and the only manmade structure visible from the house) is well worth a visit.

For children, there's the Aquadome in Tralee - an indoor water park (www.aquadome.ie); Crag cave (www.cragcave.com), Kennedy's Pet Farm (www.killarneypetfarm.com) and Coolwood Wildlife Park (www.coolwoodwildlifepark.com) to name but a few

The INEC (Irish National Exhibition Centre - www.inec.ie) in Killarney hosts international entertainment acts throughout the year.
